Autumnesque

Some Gleaming Amoeba songs were played the week of October 7, 2013 in an underground garage basement in Arden, North Carolina.  The guitarist/singer and drummer were present.  Such classics as 'Fear of Flight(I'm just as grounded myself)" and "Dewclaw" were summoned from the strings and skins!

Gavin the saxaphonist

So, last open mic, young man, taller than a tree came striding into Dave's Aqua Lounge. He had on his back, a broad shell case and a tightened backpack. The amoebas were already on stage, and without missing a beat in step, he revealed a saxophone, took it in hand, and together we all screamed notes that.... reminded me of music.
A quaint remark, moreover as a reminiscent cue. A thousand ice cream trucks dragging 30-foot shovels along Time's Square's pavement shards, uprooted and slated back down on the sands of the coastline.
This is just imagery. And it's really bullshit. But to me it's the kind that doesn't stink so bad.

Anyway, it reminded me of the islands of which we are all stationed.
Hopefully he'll come back and play some more tunes.

A return to the isle in mahogany

It's near been a half-year since we played the Emerald. We return this Friday, August 29th with a couple of bands. Bands that I admit we've long admired and been waiting to perform with.
Flexxehawk-since I first heard a tune called 'top toys', with a mad desceniding riff, my feet felt quite a bit lighter. http://myspace.com/flexxehawk
Blast and the Detergents- Missed them at the noise fests, and commenced in kicking my own heels. http://myspace.com/blast123

Both bands will be performing with us at the Emerald tomorrow night.
Not something you want to miss.

Prolonged, Extended, ReVamped

All musicians, all those interested in a musical community, and/or creating a thriving music community in St. Pete. We, Gleaming Amoebas, phantasms of guitar/bass/drums, host an OPEN-MIC every Sunday from 8 'till whenever at Dave's Aqua Lounge.
Now, not just musicians, but poets and writers and artists and threadmakers and acrobats of all sorts are invited. All is welcome and appreciated.

Tonight May 3rd 2008

Well, tonight (rather in about 2 hours) we're going to play the Tamiami, after Hot Tuna and Little Feat. Of course we just found out about this gig today. Curious, I had just recently bought ,and began digging deep, Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones and discovered that Fred Tackett of Little Feat played as a session musician on the Waits album.
By the time you read this, you'll know whether you were there or not. We'll let you know how it gets and goes.

Every sunday, for the next couple months, when walking into Dave's Aqua Lounge 'tween the hours of 8 and who knows when, don't expect anything. Or, expect not to know what to expect.

Our Jersey-boy jack-in-the-box, might be retelling 20 years past of late-night drunken debauchery while fronting the drainpipe clank of those rancid AMOEBA melodious flowernotes.

Or dig artists careening colored arrows on butcher sheets.

Singers, songwriters, poets, book admirers, musicians, drinkers, smokers, snails, shells, people are all welcome.
